CTL|Thompson, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer for full-time employment with our Materials Laboratory in Denver, CO. The Project Engineer will work on managing and completing concrete or concrete materials projects and laboratory testing primarily involved with commercial, residential, and municipal structures. They will use relevant software to perform engineering analysis and develop plans and reports. Project Engineers are required to have a PE license and will review project recommendations and designs.
Project Engineers are paid an annual salary between $80,000.00 and $100,000.00 plus discretionary bonuses. Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Train and supervise staff engineers.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist the Department Manager in providing and managing concrete technical solutions
- Provide direct engineering service and project management with full understanding of, and consistent use of, in-house project management tools and the ability to successfully delegate project responsibilities to other staff.
- Perform engineering analysis on residential, commercial, and municipal projects to provide project recommendations to clients.
- Use relevant software to aid with project analysis.
- Collaborate with others and developing coordinated designs.
- Perform testing and sampling on various concrete, aggregate, or cementitious materials.
- Prepare project documentation including plans, reports and letter for clients.
- Perform and review field and lab tests for use in engineering analysis and reports.
- Create, prepare and update project proposals and technical reports.
- Review and stamp recommendations, calculations, reports, letters, and plans created by staff engineers for delivery to clients.
- Create and maintain client relationships.
- Attend project meetings.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Excellent knowledge of current code requirements as appropriate for position.
- Experience directly applicable to concrete (including mix designs, thermal control analysis, service life engineering, forensic analysis, troubleshooting, technical requirements, testing procedures, standards and best practices, ACI manual of concrete practice, etc.)
- Experience with non-destructive test methods specific to the evaluation of concrete materials is beneficial.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Understanding of construction means and methods.
- Strong mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate and work well with a team.
- Increasing maturity and soundness of judgement in decision making and solving project-related problems and managing complex projects.
Education and Experience:
- B.S. in Civil or related engineering field. Master’s degree with emphasis in concrete or related engineering field preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience within specified field.
- Current Professional Engineer License in the state of employment or ability to obtain a license in 6 months of employment.
- Licensure in other States as required.
Work Environment
This job operates in both an outside field environment, laboratory and in an office setting with regular and reliable attendance. Regular work on computers while in the office. While working in the field, will be exposed to extreme weather conditions, including rain, snow, cold and heat. Routinely uses PPE and other safety equipment. Work will primarily be project focused but client interactions will be required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Ability to walk around constructions sites with uneven and varying terrain.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
